HOME THEATRES, MEDIA ROOMS & AUDIO
Enjoy a red-carpet experience with the latest in entertainment technology
A home theatre emulates a cinema experience by providing high-quality video and immersive audio that breathes life into your favourite movies. Typically, home theatres include four main components: a viewing device, a media device, speakers, and an AV receiver. However, many homeowners add projectors, screens, soundproofing, acoustic conditioning, and light exclusion devices to enhance the viewing experience.
"We meet clients who aren't using their home theatre because the picture isn't bright enough, the room isn't dark enough – or sometimes they have too many remotes, and it's just too frustrating to use their system. Just swapping out an older projector and amplifier for better sound makes a huge difference. Technology has come a long way in the past five to ten years, and the projector you'll buy today is more affordable and with High-Definition quality; it's the number one improvement you can make. So many cottage theatres we see have projectors that are more than ten years old, Standard Definition and out of date," says Dave.
A two-piece projector/screen combination where you can control the lighting completely is best suited for a dedicated home screening room. However, many manufacturers now offer high-brightness projectors and ambient light-rejecting screens specifically designed for brighter environments. The other main element that makes a trip to the movie theatre so memorable is the enveloping audio. Sound technology has gone from entry-level 5.1 surround sound to full 7.2.4 three-dimensional sound, and today, you can get home sound systems that are even better than commercial theatres.
Dave explains, "For the total wow factor, we can install a box that houses an iRiser subwoofer to make the seat rows of your home theatre vibrate and shake. Today, film theatres that offer movement usually only have a box that makes the floor tilt and move forward and back. So we can add some real rumble!"
